Tucked away in the heart of Ruddington village, the Framework Knitters Museum is an award-winning, handmade museum and one of the few places left where you can experience the living and working conditions of Victorian craftspeople. Restored cottages and workshops are arranged around a garden courtyard, so little ones can explore the sights, sounds and smells of a tight-knit community where whole families lived and laboured together.
It’s a great day out for curious kids and grown-ups alike, with real history brought to life in a way that’s easy to connect with. Friendly volunteers help bring the place to life, and the museum has been passing on skills and stories for generations.
When you’ve finished exploring, head to Parker’s Yard for a coffee, browse the museum shop or pop into the Chapel Gallery. Entry to all three is free, which makes it an easy add-on to a family outing in Ruddington.
Good to Know
The museum has no car park. Chapel Street is a cul-de-sac with very limited space, so please only park there if you have mobility needs.
Ruddington has plenty of free on-street parking, and there’s free parking at the Co-op car park on Church Street.
Arriving by bus? Take the NCT 9 or NCT 10 from Nottingham city centre to The Green, a short walk from the museum.
The what3words address is ///happen.less.lined.
Under 5s go free with a fee-paying adult, and carers accompanying disabled visitors also enter free.
