SEN Sessions at Slick City Nottingham
Upcoming sessions
Slick City's giant indoor slides are great for children who love a thrill, but the usual combination of music, flashing lights and excited crowds isn't everyone's idea of a good time.
That's where Slick City Nottingham's weekly SEN Sessions come in. Held every Monday, these sessions offer children and young people with additional needs the chance to enjoy the slides and attractions in a quieter, less crowded environment.
It's still an action park, rather than a traditional sensory play session, but a few thoughtful changes could make a big difference for families who find busy venues overwhelming.
What's different during SEN Sessions?
Slick City makes several adjustments to create a more comfortable environment:
Fewer visitors: Session numbers are limited, giving everyone more space to explore at their own pace.
Quieter surroundings: Music is switched off where possible or significantly reduced.
Adjusted lighting: The disco ball stays still, strobing effects are set to static and white house lights are switched on to make the space brighter and reduce changing light patterns.
Children can still enjoy Slick City's 16 dry slides and other attractions, although the AirGlider isn't available during SEN Sessions.
There's no need for a formal SEN diagnosis to attend. The sessions are open to anyone who would benefit from a quieter environment.
What can children do?
Slick City is home to some seriously big indoor slides, from racing slides to twisting drops and wave-shaped rides.
The main slides are suitable for ages four and over, making these sessions a possible option for children who enjoy active play but would appreciate fewer people and less background noise.
It's worth knowing that the slides themselves haven't been adapted. Children need to be able to climb the slide towers independently, get into the correct sliding position and enter and exit the slides safely. There aren't alternative accessible routes to the upper slide levels.
Although the lighting and music are adjusted, this isn't a completely quiet or sensory-neutral environment. The venue still has bright colours, illuminated attractions and the sounds of people enjoying the slides.
If you're unsure whether the activities will suit your child, it's worth speaking to Slick City before booking.
Free companion tickets
One parent or carer can accompany a guest with additional needs on the attractions free of charge, subject to the venue's companion ticket requirements.
You'll need to bring the relevant documentation and valid identification to check-in, so it's worth checking the Slick City accessibility information before your visit.
Adults who are simply watching don't need to buy an admission ticket.
